Trisha Goddard is talking bollox ....

She keeps saying to people with depression: "Get a dog! Start walking! Firstly walking is good against depression and secondly you meet loads of people through the dog" Bollox! Complete and utter tripe!!! I have had dogs for years and I have not made 1 friend through going walkies. The only people who say 'hi' are other dog owners and the most conversation I have with them is about either their dog or my dogs. Then it's 'cheerio' again. Not one personal word comes into the equation. Never! Ever! Not with females, not with males, not with couples ... not even with the dogs! And although I go walking every day for 2 - 3 hours, it hasn't helped the depression. Ok, so I have the pertest 50-year old bum in a 5 mile radius, but quite often I feel worse after being out with the mutts. I feel even more despondent and lonely. Coz then I am back in the house, where only mundane tasks await me. Plus of course, I can't just take of for a week or a weekend! Not that I would anyway, I lack the financial means for that ... and I knew that when I got the canines. So this isn't supposed to sound regretful, because really they are my biggest joy in life, it's just an observation. But, dear Trisha Goddard, go and get stuffed with your advice!!!

  1. You're doing (or planning to do) all of the 3 things I heard could help with depression: exercise, writing, helping others/volunteering. (As opposed to me - all I do is write and whine.) If those aren't working, maybe it's time to get some professional help and maybe some medication.

  2. We do meet people in doggy park where all the dogs run and the people talk. Maybe dogs aren't the magnet that they used to be.

  3. Yeah, bollocks on Trish! I don't find walking helps my depression either. And I sometimes chat with other dog walkers, but no lasting frienships have been formed.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Yours is great. I will definitely be back to read more.

    Best,
